A Long History of Excellence
Briefly known as the Indian Wells Desert Symphony, the Desert Symphony has earned its reputation as one of the finest orchestras of popular music in the southwest United States.
In the beginning years, the repertoire of the symphony encompassed the great works from the world of classical music, including Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Brahms. The orchestra began a slow transition toward the “pops” as the desires for this repertoire by the residents and visitors to the desert needed fulfilling.
Glen Campbell was the first major star to perform with the orchestra and was soon followed by other great artists such as Jose Feliciano, Peter Nero, the Gatlin Brothers, and Art Garfunkel. Other stars that have performed with the orchestra include Andy Williams, Roger Williams, Jack Jones, Kaye Ballard, Michael Bolton, Jason Alexander, Tommy Tune, The Texas Tenors, Neil Sedaka, Crystal Gayle, Melissa Manchester, Peter Frampton. Marie Osmond, Jon Secada, and most recently Daniel Emmet and Pia Toscano.
In addition, the symphony is very proud to serve the community through edicational and outgrach programs including our Children’s Discovery Music Series and Veterans Appreciation Program. Call us today for more information.
